Graduated as Bachelor in Agricultural Science in the Faculty of Agriculture, Uruguay, in 1970.
During the period 1977 to 1980 he did post-graduate work at the School of Wool and Pastoral Sciences, University of NSW (Australia), in the areas of Genetic Improvement of Sheep and Wool Production, where he obtained his MSc.
He was Tutor and Lecturer in the Soil Fertility Department of the Faculty of Agriculture between 1965 and 1970. During the period 1969 to 1971 he was Research and Development Officer with the Department of Sheep Production of SUL (Uruguayan Wool Secretariat). He was promoted to the position of Chief of the Department of Sheep Production Research, where he remained from 1971 until 1983, when he was again promoted to the position of Manager of the same department. In 1996 he took up duties as Manager of the Wool Research and Promotion Department in SUL. The following are his main scientific and consulting activities:
International consultant in Argentina, Chile, Perú, Brazil, Irán and Australia. He has been an invited speaker in numerous national and international events, addressing issues related to sheep and wool genetics and marketing, and animal production in general. He is the author of more than 80 scientific and extension articles.
